The Zap drew their largest crowd of the season at Hyde Stadium last night as they kicked off a three game series against the Fremont Moo, as both teams know how important each game is while both battle for the final ILB playoff spot. The Moo have an outside chance of securing that last postseason position, as they would need a few things to fall their way while winning out to get in. But the Zap have a much clearer playoff picture thanks to their great play throughout the month of July. For the Zap, it is pretty simple, just keep winning and you should make it in with two games left on the schedule with the first-half winners in the Spearfish Sasquatch. And with that near sellout crowd, they delivered an absolute dandy on a picture perfect night in Pierre.
The Zap sent Estevan Bacca out on the mound for the start, and he began mowing through the Moo lineup one batter at a time. Bacca got early swings all night out of the Fremont hitters, which turned into quick outs which kept his pitch count low. Bacca personified efficiency at its finest, delivering the first complete game from the Zap starting rotation going all nine innings, surrendering just two runs on 99 pitches. Those two runs coming in the eighth and ninth innings when his offense had already built a very comfortable lead.
The Zap’s lead was assisted by two, two-run homeruns off the bats of Quinn Ludvigsen and Vince Polizzi, both leaving the yard in the deepest part of the ballpark to center field on their way to the 6-2 victory. The Zap now move back to .500 the latest in a season since they went from 0-1 to 1-1 a few years ago. For those that know the Zap, they will tell you this team is playing with a different personality and is certainly special compared to teams of seasons past.
The Spuds and Spearfish split their doubleheader yesterday, Spearfish winning 7-3 in game one and the Spuds winning game two 13-6. That was the best case scenario for the Zap who may have to get in by win percentage should the Sasquatch win the second half of the season as well. The Zap will certainly be scoreboard watching the Squatch and Spuds, but will also need to take care of business tonight in game two of their series against Fremont. Tonight’s game against the Moo will get underway at 6:05 PM CT, and we will have coverage on River 92.7 beginning at 5:55 PM CT. You can also watch tonight’s game live on DRGnews.com/River. Get your tickets at OaheZap.com or buy them at the box office when you arrive at historic Hyde Stadium.
