The Oahe Zap needed to do one thing this weekend, and that was split their two-game series with the first half winners of the season, the Spearfish Sasquatch. And split is exactly what they did, losing game one but taking game two in dramatic fashion. Yes, the Zap would have loved to sweep Spearfish, but that is asking a lot against one of the top teams in the league on their own field. A split was crucial for the Zap because they sit in first place and in the drivers seat for the final postseason spot. A split means they did not give up any ground to the rest of the league and still control their own destiny.
After losing game one 11-6, the Zap knew Sunday’s game was essentially a must-win. After falling behind 2-0 in game two, the Zap struck for three runs in the sixth inning, then added four more in the eighth inning to make it a 7-2 ballgame. Spearfish would score three in the eighth but would be blanked in the ninth giving the Zap the 7-5 victory. Gavin Fraser, Andrew Phillips, Mason Lang, Jake Daily and Jared Pugrad all drove runs in to help boost the Zap to the win, and now they get a few welcomed off days before the final four regular season games of the year.
The Zap will head to Fremont to take on the Moo on Thursday and Friday before coming home to Hyde Stadium for the final two home regular season games of the year against Hastings. Game one of the two game series against the Sodbusters will be at 6:05 PM CT and then on Sunday at 2:30 PM CT. Both games will be broadcast on River 92.7 and streamed on DRGnews.com at the River 92.7 station page. However, you won’t want to miss two games that could catapult the Zap into the Championship Series for the first time in their organization’s history.
