This year has seen an increase in storms, but not all of the storms have been on Earth.
Shawn Dahl, the Service Coordinator at the Space Weather Prediction Center, says that geomagnetic storms have been running rampant in space and may be affecting agriculture on Earth.
Dahl shares some of the effects these storms have on agriculture in the U.S. and some insight into work they are doing to help mitigate their effects.
In May 2024, Dahl says one of the storms that took place caused a $500,000,000 loss in the corn industry alone.
Dahl says They’re working to be able to predict these space storms and to get warnings sent out to help minimize losses that may occur because of them.
