On Thursday (July 24, 2025), a contractor will begin asphalt milling and resurfacing on S.D. Highway 1806 between the junction of U.S. Highway 14 and Highway 1806 to the west end of S.D. Highway 204– or the Oahe Dam.
From its junction with the west end of Highway 204, Highway 1806 will continue to be resurfaced to the northwest for approximately 30 miles.
During the project, traffic will be reduced to one lane and guided with the use of flaggers and a pilot car. Delays of up to 15 minutes should be expected while traveling through the work area during daytime hours. An over width restriction WILL NOT be in place. A roughened surface, fresh oil and a centerline drop-off may be present as construction progresses. Traffic is advised to reduce speed or use an alternate route.
The South Dakota Department of Transportation anticipates this portion of the $11.6 million project will be complete by late September 2025. The overall project completion date is November 2025.
