This Zap season has been a roller coaster of a ride, but it’s been one of the most exciting seasons this organization has ever put together. For the first time ever, the Zap are only a few wins away from possibly securing their spot in the ILB Championship Series, and they had to win in extra innings last night to keep those postseason dreams alive.
The Zap have had the Moo’s number all season, beating them every time the two faced off. However, baseball is a funny game and a team can have a day and upset you at any time. Last night’s game was almost a perfect example of that. After taking an early 3-1 lead in the first, the Zap gave up two runs in the second as the Moo tied it up 3-3. Answering with a run in the third leading 4-3, the Zap stayed steady, until the game went completely haywire.
The Zap scored two in the sixth to extend the lead, when the Moo answered with two of their own to cut it back to a one-run game. After a scoreless frame in the top of the seventh, the Moo took the lead with three runs in the bottom half to deliver a gut-punch to the Zap and their playoff hopes. But the Zap bounced back with three runs in the ninth to take a two run lead into the bottom of the ninth. The Moo would simply not go away, however, scoring two to tie it up at 9-9 and send the game to extras. With runners on, the Zap would bring three across in the tenth to take a 12-9 lead. In the bottom of the tenth, the Moo would score two, but the Zap would hold on and get a must needed win to essentially save the season.
This now sets up an incredibly important home-series tonight and tomorrow where the Zap will need to win both to try and win the second half of the season and break into the playoffs. The Zap need you out at Hyde Stadium tonight and tomorrow to create the playoff atmosphere, game one against the Hastings Sodbusters will be Saturday night will be at 6:05, then Sunday against Hastings Sunday at 2:30.
