A U.S. District Judge has sentenced a man from Harrold, South Dakota, who was convicted of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person. The sentencing took place last week (July 21, 2025).
47 year old Jerrod Fallis was sentenced to six months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. Forfeiture of the firearm and silencer was also ordered.
Fallis was indicted by a federal grand jury in March 2024. He pleaded guilty on April 17, 2025.
Court information says on December 8, 2023, a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle driven by Fallis. During a search of the vehicle, officers discovered methamphetamine paraphernalia, a Rock River Arms AR15 rifle and a silencer. Fallis is prohibited from possessing firearms due to prior state felony drug convictions.
This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Hyde County Sheriff’s Office.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan Dilges prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on these core principles: fostering trust and legitimacy in our communities, supporting community-based organizations that help prevent violence from occurring in the first place, setting focused and strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring the results.
Fallis was immediately remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
