Ranch Hand BBQ wins Verendrye Museum Backyard BBQ contest during Trader Days in Fort Pierre; Fort Pierre Livestock takes People’s Choice

The annual Verendrye Museum Backyard BBQ contest was held Saturday (Aug. 9, 2025) during Trader Days in Fort Pierre. The team winners are as follows:

Money raised by the Backyard BBQ Contest is used to support the Verendrye Museum, as well as the Depot Museum, the Stanley County 1905 Jail, the Sansarc Country School Museum and the Log Cabin Visitor Museum. The five museums are open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The hours are Monday through Saturday from 9am-4pm CT, and Sundays from 11am-4pm CT.

Aug. 8, 2025:

It’s Trader Days weekend in Fort Pierre (Aug. 8-9, 2025).

Fort Pierre Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Shane Kramme says things get started at 5pm CT Friday.

Kramme says Saturday has a full day of fun.

Kramme says they’ll have turkeys available for anyone who wants to compete in the turkey races.
