A South Dakota Lottery player has claimed their Lotto America jackpot prize.
The player, who won the prize as a result of the Aug. 6 Lotto America drawing, became South Dakota’s first multi-state jackpot winner since 2018. The player chose the cash option of the $4,010,000 jackpot, which resulted in a one-time payment of $1,822,001. Applicable Federal income taxes were also withheld.
The winning ticket was purchased at Freedom Valu Center in Vermillion. The retailer will receive a $10,000 incentive for selling the winning ticket. The jackpot win marks South Dakota’s first under Lotto America’s current format, which was launched in 2017.
While the Lotto America prize has been claimed, the jackpot excitement doesn’t end for South Dakota Lottery Players. Wednesday’s Powerball drawing features a $526 million jackpot.
The state’s General Fund, which supports K-12 schools, state universities and technical institutes, receives 70 percent of net revenue from lotto games such as Lotto America. The state’s Capital Construction Fund receives the remaining 30 percent. This supports the Water and Environment Fund, the Ethanol Fuel Fund, and the State Highway Fund.

Wednesday night’s (Aug. 6, 2025) Lotto America drawing featured South Dakota’s first multi-state jackpot winner since 2018.
The South Dakota Lottery say a ticket worth an estimated $4,010,000 was purchased at Freedom Valu Center in Vermillion. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
The winning numbers were 26, 29, 30, 33, 40 and the Star Ball was 1. Wednesday’s jackpot win marks South Dakota’s first jackpot winner under Lotto America’s current format, which was launched in November 2017.
The winning player(s) will have the option to receive a one-time cash payment of $1,820,000 or 30 graduated annuity payments over the course of 29 years. Applicable Federal income taxes will be withheld.
The South Dakota Lottery advises the winner to sign the back of the ticket immediately and speak to a financial adviser before claiming the prize. Players have 180 days after the date of the drawing to claim their prize.
Lottery Executive Director Norm Lingle said this is exciting for the South Dakota Lottery, its players and its retail partners. He congratulates the winner but also stresses the importance of taking the proper steps to fully enjoy the jackpot prize.
