The Walworth County Commissioners are moving forward with building a new jail facility in Selby. Dean Marske of HKG Architects in Aberdeen was at Tuesday’s (Aug. 12th) commission meeting to discuss the planning. Commissioner Duane Mohr made the motion, which was approved.
As Mohr stated in his motion, financing the project will be decided at the next commission meeting.
Emergency Management
Walworth County Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen gave the board an update on his work to obtain a tower site for the public safety radio system.
Jensen also talked about adjusting the 2026 budget due to a grant for the purchase of four Smart Connect radios – three for the Sheriff’s Office and one for Emergency Management.
Highway
Walworth County Highway Superintendent Tom Hannan received approval from the commission to require permits on approaches in the County.
Landfill
The commissioners passed a motion to advertise for new bids on a 48 by 40 storage building at the Landfill with bid opening during the September meeting.
Equalization
Walworth County Director of Equalization Greg Pudwill explained his budget request for a $34,000 increase in salary to bring his position in line with surrounding counties, whose Equalization Directors all receive the same salary. The commission approved the adjustment request, with Commissioner Scott Schilling voting against it.
Auditor
Walworth County Auditor Kim Dills gave the board her July report.
Dills also received approval from the commissioners for Brenda DeToy, Tom Hannan, Leah Holder, Scott Schilling, and herself to attend the South Dakota County Convention September 7th through the 9th.
The next Walworth County Commission meeting will be Thursday, September 11th.
