Monday (Aug. 18, 2025) was an historic day for Codington County government as officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking on a new 108-bed jail that’ll be built along Highway 212, on the west edge of Watertown.
Sheriff Brad Howell said there were failed bond referendums to fund a new jail in 2014 and 2017, but a $29.6 million question was approved by voters last November (2024).
Completion is expected by mid 2027.
