Event programs will no longer be printed but will be housed on our website and can be accessed by scanning a QR Code. This QR Code will be prominently displayed at your event facilities.
All efforts will also be made to include your programs in Newsworthy the Tuesday before the event so you also have the option to download and print.
This change will take some time to get used to…. we hope you give it a chance!
Meet Scott Cain
Recently, I had the pleasure of watching Scott officiate at our SE Area Bocce Tournament. I knew Scott as a Sioux Falls Fireworks Athlete, so I was a little surprised to see him in this role.
Scott officiated with confidence. He had complete command of his court, and It was immediately evident he knew what he was doing.
It wasn’t just his competence that caught my attention; it was also his demeanor. He encouraged the competitors and cheered almost every ball. His energy, the smile on his face, his words of encouragement— he was having a blast!
According to Cain, “I participate in Special Olympics Basketball, Soccer, Softball, and Track, but this is my second year officiating Bocce. To me, officiating is more fun than playing!”
I complimented Scott on his enthusiasm. He replied, “When I’m on the other side of the ropes playing sports, It means a lot to me when officials and spectators cheer and are loud. This is my way of leading the way and giving back.”
I thanked Scott for volunteering his time and talents. Through his always-present grin, Scott replied, “Teamwork makes the dream work!”
For Special Olympics to truly become a movement led by athletes, they must be given the opportunity to share their abilities, experiences, and knowledge. Thank you, Scott, for doing just that!

SPORTS
HEALTH & FITNESS
For the next 6 weeks, let’s talk about some weird yet wonderful health tips.
Strange But True Health Tip #6: Drink a hot beverage to cool off
Which will cool you off faster on a steamy summer morning: iced coffee or hot? Two recent studies say the latter—and so do others where drinking hot tea in hot weather is the norm, like in India. When you sip a hot beverage, your body senses the change in temperature and increases your sweat production. Then, as the sweat evaporates from your skin, you cool off naturally.
In other words, drinking something hot in order to feel cooler.

ATTENTION ATHLETES… Special Olympics North America Athlete Input Survey
As Special Olympics approaches its 60th anniversary, it’s extremely important for leaders at all levels of the movement to understand what our athletes enjoy most about the movement and where we need to make even more progress on and off the field.
This survey should only take a few minutes and responses will only be seen by Athlete Leadership staff from Special Olympics North America. Your name will not be tied to your responses, so please be honest and do not hold back. There are no right or wrong answers!
