No more preseason games, no more training camps, all the plays are installed, everyone has been assigned to either the 53-man roster or the practice squad, the NFL regular season is officially here. And Roger Goodell is sure treating us to an absolute thrilling of a slate over the next five days. That slate closes on Monday night with JJ McCarthy and the Vikings travelling to take on the Bears on Monday Night Football. Sunday, we won’t be moving from the couch with the Buccaneers playing the Falcons at noon for an early edge in the NFC South. In the afternoon slate, the Lions travel to take on Jordan Love, Micah Parsons and the Packers. Then the Bills and Ravens close out the Sunday slate on Sunday Night Football in Orchard Park. We also get the rare Friday night game between the Chiefs and the Chargers. But before all of that, it’s the Cowboys and Eagles tonight at 7:20 PM CT on NBC.
The Cowboys and Jerry Jones obviously made waves in the NFL waters when they traded Micah Parsons to one of their most hated out-of-division rivals, the Green Bay Packers. In return, the Cowboys received two first-round picks (2026 & 2027), and pro-bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark. Clark, while an outstanding player, was the bow on top of the real meat of the deal which was the picks. The only problem for the Cowboys is the Packers are a Super Bowl contender, which means they will likely make a deep run in the playoffs. That will situate them towards the end of the draft which means those picks the Cowboys traded for will be closer to the second round both years than it will be the first. Good luck finding a player like Micah Parsons between picks 25-32 where we expect the Packers will be finishing.
The Eagles are obviously looking to defend their Super Bowl after their 40-22 drubbing of the Chiefs less than a year ago in New Orleans. Saquon Barkley made his way to Philadelphia after the Giants botched the handling of his contract and let him walk for free, Barkley would go on to have one of the best years we’ve seen from a running back in quite some time. Can Jalen Hurts and the Eagles ride the Barkley train all the way back to the big game? We will find out today.
This will be an interesting quarterback battle between Hurts and Cowboys Dak Prescott. Prescott has been a guy that everyone thinks should have led the Cowboys to the promise land, but hasn’t put together a good enough season yet to make that happen. Hurts, on the other hand, was someone that almost no one envisioned having the command and control to take a team deep into the playoffs, let alone to a double-digit win over the 2x reigning Super Bowl champions in the Kansas City Chiefs. Tonight’s game kicks off at 7:20 PM CT on NBC, and then we are off and rolling for the next 18 weeks!
