The Pierre Governor student section showed up in droves to cheer their volleyball squad on to what they hoped would be their first victory of the season. There was a great energy in Riggs High Gym for a Thursday night, and they were rewarded for their efforts with a great Governor performance.
The Govs created an early cushion in the first set after both them and the Douglas Patriots went back and forth trading points. Led by great service by Sloan Waldron and Hadley Hart, Pierre would take set one 25-19.
In set two, the Govs would win that 25-19 as well, but felt more in control of the play than they were in set one. The Govs took the first three points of the set and did not let up off the gas until they won it. The Patriots showed good fight to cut the deficit down, but the Govs momentum was too strong as they took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
Set three was the Govs most dominant set. They, again, got up early and did not let up going onto win 25-12 and complete the shutout, 3-0 victory. Paige Sporrer was the Cowboy Country Stores Player of the Game after her six kill, two ace performance. Ally Keys also had a great match for the Govs tallying seven kills in the win as they earned their first win of the year, moving to 1-3 on the season.
The Govs will head to Mitchell on Saturday for a 2:30 PM CT match on River 92.7, Brian Oakland’s coverage will begin around 2 PM. The match will also be streamed on DRGnews.com.
