Sept. 12, 2025:
Two men died in a single vehicle ATV crash Sept. 1, 2025, seven miles south of Custer, SD.
Preliminary crash information indicates 60 year old Curtis Shawn Molone from Long Pine, NE, the driver of a 2023 Can-Am Maverick Side-by-Side, was traveling southbound on Flynn Creek Road. Failing to negotiate a curve, the vehicle slid sideways on the gravel road, entered the east side ditch and collided with a tree. Both the driver and passenger, 41 year old Shawn Lee Malone from Ainsworth, NE, died at the scene.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

Two men died in a single vehicle ATV crash Monday evening (Sept. 1, 2025, at 5:40pm) seven miles south of Custer, SD.
The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates the 60 year old male driver of a 2023 Can-Am Maverick Side-by-Side was traveling southbound on Flynn Creek Road. Failing to negotiate a curve, the vehicle slid sideways on the gravel road, entered the east side ditch and collided with a tree. Both the driver, who is from Long Pine, Nebraska, and the 41 year old male passenger from Ainsworth, Nebraska, died at the scene.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Both men were wearing a seat belt.
