With plenty of reason to celebrate, the Stanley County Buffaloes came into the night hoping to beat Redfield and move to .500 on the season after last weeks final second win over Leola/Frederick Area got them to 1- 2. It was a picture perfect homecoming night in Fort Pierre, partly cloudy sun-filled skies turning down the heat as the sun set behind Ole Williamson Field. The Buffaloes wasted no time picking up where their offense left off scoring a 62-yard touchdown on a Brendon Bothwell post-route. Stanley County would fail the 2-point conversion, but would score almost immediately on their second play of their second drive thanks to a shifty, 48-yard Landon Bame touchdown run. Weston Prince would punch in the 2-point try to make it 14-0 as Stanley County imposed their will on the contest.
The scoring continued with Joe Malm, who caught a 28-yard rope from Prince for the games third touchdown and subsequent 2-point score making it 22-0. This score was even more special for Malm who was making his first start on offense after being elevated thanks to his great special teams play last week.
Weston Prince would score six for Stanley County on an eight-yard scamper. Then, after an errant snap on a Redfield punt, the Buffaloes would be setup on the doorstep leading to a Landon Bame one-yard touchdown run.
Early in the third quarter, Brendon Bothwell found himself all alone in the end zone on the receiving end of a 20-yard touchdown pass from Prince. Maybe the only time a South Dakotan wants to find himself alone in a field with no Pheasants around.
Redfield would break the shutout with a Conner Zens one-yard touchdown run with :05 left on the clock, but it was too little too late as Stanley County closed out the 42-0 victory.
Joe Malm was the Baumann Lumber Player of the Game for making the most of his starting opportunity, and also earned the nickname “Hoco Joe” in the process. As proud as his head coach Max Foth was of him, Malm was celebrating with his family postgame when he earned his shirt, who were bursting with pride. Malm’s coaching staff raved about how much fun of a player he is to coach, and how he always steps up no matter what.
