WATERTOWN, S.D. — A somewhat sputtering Pierre Governor offense found its rhythm Friday night in a 41-19 road win at Watertown. Pierre scored on three consecutive possessions beginning with a 14-play, 6-minute drive ending early in the second quarter when Porter Hunsley cross the goal line from a yard out. Hunsley added another 1-yard score to make it 14-0. Then quarterback Kaleb Lounsbury found Carter Schiefelbein on a perfect throw for a 35-yard TD pass and a 21-0 lead. Watertown then cracked the scoreboard for the first time just before halftime with a 5-yard trot by Lincoln Schutt. Scoring in the second half began when Lounsbury hit Lincoln Dilges in stride up the left sideline for a 60-yard bomb. Then Keya Ducheneaux rambled in from 10 yards out to make it 34-7. Schutt found the end zone a second time to close the gap for the Arrows at 34-13, but the Govs responded on their next possession with a 12-yard connection from Lounsbury to Jerren Deal. Schutt’s third TD of the game came on the final play for the 41-19 final. He finished with over 100 yards of rushing and three scores, but the Arrows fell to 0-3 to start the season. Meanwhile the Governors amassed nearly 500 total yards as Lounsbury threw for 297 and three scores. Schiefelbein caught six passes for 105 yards and a “tuddy” while Cooper Terwilliger also got involved with five key receptions. Ducheneaux tallied 123 yards to lead the ground attack. Max Bogenhagen and Max Schmitz keyed the line play on both sides for most of the game, and Will Eilers forced an Arrow fumble in the second half. The Governors are now 2-1 as they will host Brookings for Homecoming Friday night.
