MOBRIDGE, S.D. – The Mobridge-Pollock Lady Tigers earned a competitive win over Timber Lake in a three set sweep on Tuesday Night inside Mobridge-Pollock high school. Don’t let the sweep fool you Mobridge-Pollock had to fight for this win, but in doing so proved a lot about their team and what they may be capable of this season, as the Lady Tigers improved to 5-2 on the season.
This game featured no shortage of great plays from this astounding Lady Tigers roster. Brooke Bain really shined in the win earning our Riverside Home Furnishing Player of the Game, but many of her teammates deserve their flowers as well. Tegan Konold had some big digs on defense and came up big in the first and third set on the service line. Blake Thompson, Jayda Thompson and Jersey Frederick all flexed their power at the net all night racking up kills for Mobridge-Pollock. Avery Schlomer was also very impressive off the bench and a crucial player at the service line in the win.
Set one started out with a tightly contested back and forth with both teams trading points all the way until they found themselves tied at 21. Mobridge-Pollock came into the game with the better record and better stats on paper but Timber Lake held their own and capitalized on Mobridge-Pollock mistakes early, sending the ball too far on kill attempts. The difference in this first set ended up being Tegan Konold who went back to the service line and rattled off a couple of well placed serves helping her team win set one 25-21.
Set two saw a Mobridge-Pollock adjustment helping them win with ease 25-15 but it was set three where the Lady Tigers really shined. Midway through the third set the Lady Tigers found themselves down 16-9, their largest deficit in this game. Then a timeout from head coach Rose Henderson was all they needed to turn things around, and with some excellent vision and playing smart on returning Timber Lake serves, Mobridge-Pollock fought their way back into the third set. In the end it would be Brooke Bain slamming down the final kill of the game in an excellent all around performance for the Lady Tigers winning set three 26-24 and earning the sweep.
Mobridge-Pollock will return to the court when they travel to Stanley County Saturday, September 20 for the Big Dakota Conference Tournament starting at 10:00 a.m.
