It’s Hunger Action Month and Feeding South Dakota is commemorating 50 years of working to fight hunger across the state.
An open house is being held today (Sept. 17, 2025) at the Feeding South Dakota Distribution Center in Pierre. It’s located at 20562 Grace Avenue, in the northeast part of town. If possible, folks planning to attend the open house are asked to RSVP.
In 2024, the organization:
- served all 66 counties in South Dakota
- provided 11.7 million meals
- hosted 1452 mobile food distributions
- served 12,772 families each month at mobile food distributions
- distributed 27,929 senior food boxes
- distributed 161,957 backpacks to students
- supported 263 community partners
- 10,182 volunteers donated 58,983 hours fighting hunger
- 78% of food distributed encouraged a healthy diet
Monetary donations made to Feeding South Dakota during September’s Hunger Action Month will be doubled (by First Interstate Bank).
