South Dakota’s agricultural producers will be celebrated this fall as the South Dakota Pork Producers Council, the South Dakota Soybean Checkoff, and the South Dakota Corn Utilization Council join forces to host a free Farmer Appreciation Tailgate at the South Dakota State University football game on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
The free tailgate will begin at 9:00 AM outside Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium ahead of the 2:00 PM kickoff vs. Mercyhurst. Fans are invited to enjoy free pork burgers, refreshments and a celebration of South Dakota’s farming community.
“Farmers are the backbone of South Dakota, and this tailgate is one small way we can say thank you,” said Abbey Riemenschneider, Director of Programs and Communication at the South Dakota Pork Producers Council. “We’re proud to share pork raised right here in our state with farm families at this event.”
“Soybeans are part of so many everyday products that people don’t always realize,” said David Struck, President, South Dakota Soybean Checkoff. “This tailgate is a great chance to connect our farmers with the community and showcase the impact of agriculture in our state.”
“Corn farming touches every corner of South Dakota — from feeding livestock to fueling cars,” said Jim Ketelhut, President, South Dakota Corn Utilization Council. “We’re excited to join our partners in celebrating the hardworking farm families who keep our state strong.”
This event will honor the hardworking men and women who raise the food that feed our families. Corn and soybean farmers are preparing for harvest and will spend long hours in the combine. This event is the perfect opportunity to show farmers that their long hours do not go unnoticed.
These three organizations are committed to supporting the agricultural interests of our state and have come together most recently to fund the new South Dakota State University Swine Education and Research Facility.
