United States President Donald Trump has nominated (Oct. 7, 2025) South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation Director Dan Satterlee to be the state’s next U.S. Marshal.
Attorney General Marty Jackley recommended Satterlee for the position. The nomination was supported by South Dakota Senators Thune and Rounds.
Satterlee’s nomination has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee for consideration. If approved there, the nomination would go to the full Senate for confirmation. No timeline was given as to how soon those hearings may be held.
The Division of Criminal Investigation is a Division of the Attorney General’s Office.
