MOBRIDGE, S.D. – The Mobridge-Pollock Lady Tigers lost in three sets to the Ipswich Tigers Monday night at Mobridge-Pollock high school. Despite losing in three sets it was a hard fought battle and a close match overall as the Lady Tigers fall to 13-12 on the season.
Ipswich had many impressive performers in the win but a few really jumped out including seniors Josie Knutson, Marley Guthmiller, and Natalie Crissman. Ipswich prides itself on its depth and ability to rotate and give different looks but one constant was the presence of Josie Knutson, the setter who was able to spread the ball all over the court and set up a lot of unique looks. A highlight for her on the night was a behind the back set to Anna Nierman which faked out the entire Lady Tiger defense setting up Nierman for the easy kill. This performance made Josie Knutson the Riverside Home Furnishing Player of the Game.
Set one started out about as dominantly as it could have for Ipswich and things only got better for them as they played on. Not only did Ipswich play with incredible precision and power but they played mistake free, so much so that they earned a huge 25-9 win to get this match started. Set two would start out pretty similar with Ipswich taking an early 17-11 lead before a timeout from Mobridge-Pollock helped them flip a switch to get back into the set with several lead changes before Ipswich was eventually able to get the 26-24 win. Set three saw more of the same back and fourth play before Ipswich was able to pull ahead at the very end to earn the three set sweep winning the third set 25-19.
Mobridge-Pollock will return to the court when they travel to Aberdeen Roncalli tomorrow night, October 14 as we get closer to the end of the regular season, first serve is at 7:30 p.m.
