The South Dakota Bureau of Administration and Human Resources has approved making repairs around the Flaming Fountain along Capitol Lake.
During this month’s Capitol Complex Beautification and Restoration Commission meeting (Oct. 2, 2025), Deputy State Engineer Kristine Day said the area being worked on would also include the steps that lead down from the Fountain.
In the area being discussed, there are currently paving stones with a rubber mat underneath. Day said the mat keeps water from running off or soaking into the ground.
Day said they want to use stamped concrete as part of the repairs.
The repairs could begin this Fall and would be finished in the Spring.
