Information released from the Governor’s Office today (Oct. 17, 2025) says the 89th Attack Squadron “Marauders” stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base were involved in what’s now being called the “12 Day War” between Iran–Israel back in June (June 13-25, 2025).
Operation MIDNIGHT HAMMER was a strike by the United States on Iranian nuclear sites. The effort is credited with ending the 12-Day War.
In honor of their success during “Operation MIDNIGHT HAMMER” Governor Larry Rhoden has declared today “89th Attack Squadron Appreciation Day.” For the safety of all involved, Rhoden’s Office says Friday was the first day the Governor could publicly acknowledge the Squadron’s involvement. He honored the troops at a recognition ceremony Friday at Ellsworth Air Force Base.
Rhoden says the 89th Attack Squadron demonstrated heroic service and sacrifice in defense of America and our freedoms and until today, they were ‘unsung heroes.’ He says the Squadron conducted 177 hours of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance operations that provided “vital strategic advantages in protecting American lives and interests.”
