MOBRIDGE, S.D. – The Mobridge-Pollock Tigers lost their last regular season game to Deuel 40-35 on Friday Night at Tiger Stadium. It was a back and fourth game with both teams taking multi-score leads but eventually Deuel would strike back at the right time earning the win as the Tigers dropped to 6-2 on the season.
A big offensive game for both teams was the story for this one early as Shooter Frederick and Aidan Sievers battled it out through the air. Mack Saxon put up his typical numbers averaging nearly 10 yards a carry in this game while he surpassed 1,000 yards on the ground this season. To combat the Tiger rushing attack Gavin Kloos has a phenomenal first quarter helping Deuel get out to a big lead, and would end up being a key factor in the Cardinals getting the win in the end. Through all of this it was Aidan Sievers who was impossible to bring down in the backfield making plays all day and throwing for 148 yards and three touchdowns making him our Riverside Home Furnishing Player of the Game.
Deuel won the coin toss and decided to receive the opening kickoff and made a statement on offense in their first drive coming right down the field to score. Mobridge-Pollock came right back down the field for their first drive of the game capped off with a Mack Saxon rushing touchdown. Deuel came right back down the field on their next drive to retake the lead, and Mobridge-Pollock looked on track to do the same before a Shooter Frederick pass was intercepted. Deuel would go on to score with a good drive after the turnover, and on the very next Tiger drive they would fumble, turning the ball over again which Deuel took advantage of to take a 26-8 lead. Going into the second quarter the Tigers drove down the field on offense once again and after forcing a turnover on downs a scoring again went into halftime down 26-21.
Coming out of halftime Mobridge-Pollock got the ball first on offense and went right down the field to take the lead on offense. After another defensive stop and another score the Tigers took a nine point lead after being down 18 at one point in the first half. Deuel then came back on offense and scored to bring it back within one score making it 35-32. Mobridge-Pollock still had a three score lead and would be getting the ball back but a botched return attempt would give Deuel the ball back and a series of penalties put them in the red zone to eventually take the 40-35 lead. Mobridge-Pollock would struggle on offense on their next drive and on a key fourth down fail to convert setting up Deuel to take more time off the clock only giving the Tigers less than a minute once they got the ball back but that would be too little time for the Tigers to drive down the field as Deuel secured the win.
Mobridge-Pollock will now await to see who they will take on for their first round playoff matchup next Thursday, October 23.
