Oct. 22, 2025:
This water restriction has been lifted.
Oct. 21, 2025:
An emergency water restriction has been put into effect in Fort Pierre (Oct. 21, 2025, around 5am CT) and it will remain in effect until further notice.
Information from the City Office says a leak surfaced just south of Fort Pierre Friday (Oct. 17, 2025) and the Mni Wiconi Rural Water System can’t get a valve to hold in their line at Bad River, so the town needs to conserve water.
Absolutely no lawn watering is allowed until the restriction is lifted. Additionally, residents and businesses are asked to conserve water by limiting laundry washing and other high water use activities until the water restriction is lifted.
Anyone with questions can contact the Fort Pierre City Office at 605-223-7690.
Oct. 19, 2025:
On Sunday (Oct. 19, 2025), traffic control was put into place on U.S. Highway 83 approximately one quarter mile south of Fort Pierre. The traffic control is to allow a contractor to repair a leak in the Mni Wiconi water line.
Motorists should reduce speed as they proceed through the work zone and stay alert for both construction equipment and personnel. A 16 foot-width restriction will be in effect for the duration of the water line repair project. Work is anticipated to be complete by Oct. 27, 2025.
