The Chargers welcomed the Patriots in for their second matchup of the 2025 season, but this time around in the postseason. It was a bit of a slow start for the Chargers with the Patriots digging in on defense and getting a few first half, fourth down stops.
The Patriots made it tough-sledding for Sully Buttes, but the Chargers found success on the ground in the second quarter with Kadyn Westergren as he ripped off a 23-yard run into Patriot territory, then capped it off with a four-yard score to get Sully Buttes on the board. The Chargers added on with a bit of trickery on a fake-option, end-around to Jett Yackley, who looked like he was going to run it in but instead threw it to a wide open Gavin Colson for another Charger score.
Up 14-0 with just under three minutes left, the Chargers put a scoring drive together to end the first half with a 20-0 lead.
The Patriots pulled off an outstanding onside kick to begin the third quarter, keeping themselves within striking distance. Unfortunately for them, Wittler would pick off a Devin Enander pass on the very next play. Evander made a couple gorgeous passes on the evening, but had to tip his cap to his counterpart for the acrobatic play.
The Chargers would continue to thrive in the second half with more big plays from their offense stretching the lead out to 42. The Patriots showed a ton of fight towards the end scoring a touchdown and converting the two-point conversion with :07 left, a positive way to end a difficult loss.
With the 42-8 victory the Chargers advance to the second round and will face off with Faulkton Area, the team they beat a year ago in the Dome for a State Championship. DRG Media Group will have coverage of the rematch on Thursday, October 30th. The time is still TBA.
