Oct. 29, 2025:
A Belle Fourche woman died and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday evening (Oct. 23, 2025, 8:12pm) eight miles west of Roscoe, SD.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates 63 year old Shawna Laree Weishaar, the driver of a 2003 Toyota Highlander, was traveling eastbound on US Highway 12 near mile marker 241 when a deer ran into the roadway. Weishaar swerved to avoid the deer, but hit it. The Highlander entered the westbound lane, colliding with an oncoming 2018 GMC Sierra.
Weishaar sustained fatal injuries. She was not wearing a seat belt.
19 year old Tacey Dean Miller of Webster, the driver of the GMC, sustained minor injuries. A passenger in the GMC, 19 year old Harvey Torbert Williamson from Federalsburg, Maryland, also had minor injuries.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

Edmunds County, S.D.- A Belle Fourche woman died and two others were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday evening eight miles west of Roscoe, SD.
The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2003 Toyota Highlander was traveling eastbound on US Highway 12 near mile marker 241 when a deer ran into the roadway. The driver swerved to avoid the deer but struck it and entered the westbound lane, colliding with an oncoming 2018 GMC Sierra.
The driver of the Toyota sustained fatal injuries. The driver and a passenger in the GMC sustained minor injuries.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
