Nov. 24, 2025:
A women’s state prison inmate placed on escape status from the Pierre Minimum Center earlier this month is back in custody.
Latoya Shangreaux was arrested in the Rapid City area on Saturday (Nov. 22, 2025). She is currently being held in the Pennington County Jail. She was placed on escape status after failing to return to the Pierre Minimum Center following her work release shift on Nov. 7.
Failure to return to custody following a work release assignment constitutes second-degree escape, a Class 5 felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
Any person who conceals a prisoner knowing that the prisoner has escaped is also guilty of a Class 5 felony.
Nov. 10, 2025:
State prison offender Latoya Shangreaux has been placed on escape status after she failed to return to the Pierre Minimum Center Friday night (Nov. 7, 2025) from her work release job site.
According to the South Dakota Department of Corrections, Shangreaux, age 37, is a Native American female. She is five-foot-six inches tall and weighs 205 pounds. She has brown hair, brown eyes and visible neck tattoos. She is serving sentences for possession of a controlled substance and failure to appear from Minnehaha County.
If anyone sees Shangreaux or knows of her whereabouts, please contact law enforcement immediately.
