In commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, South Dakotans are invited to take part in Read 250, a program dedicated to the study and appreciation of American history.
State Librarian George Seamon says Read 250– or America’s 250th – A Reading Adventure through America’s History– is a self-paced, self-reporting reading program for all ages. Using an app or website, participants can track their reading and take part in activities that will enhance their knowledge of American history. He says people can join the program individually or as a group.
Besides reading, Read 250 activity options include:
-
visiting one of eight Carnegie Libraries located in South Dakota,
-
exploring at least two historical sites in South Dakota, and
-
interviewing an elder relative or resident about their experiences growing up.
Participants are encouraged to share the details of their experience with others through social media by using #SDRead250 or by mentioning the South Dakota State Library in their social media post. The Read 250 program will be available through Dec. 31, 2026.
Those interested in taking part in Read 250 can access the program by visiting its webpage, https://app.readerzone.com/homepage/south-dakota-state-library-12461/261986.
