If you haven’t heard by now, the Pierre Governors are State Champions for the eight time in nine seasons after defeating Yankton Friday night 56-35. The Govs were led by an outstanding performance from Porter Hunsley who was named the Joe Robbie MVP which is awarded to the best back in the 11 AA Championship game. Hunsley ran for 171-yards and found the end zone five total times.
Steve Steele resurrected his team’s campaign after losing three regular season games in the span of a month, including a loss to the Bucks who beat them 35-28. After their final loss of the year to O’Gorman, Steele and the Govs kept the course and turned the year around winning their last six games including the victory in the Dome.
To celebrate this amazing accomplishment, there will be a welcome home rally for the team at Riggs High Gym starting at 6:00 PM CT tonight. All are welcome to attend and are encouraged to come and enjoy the title with the team!
