The volunteer Board and staff of MRHC Foundation are celebrating a successful Giving Tuesday today thanks to the generosity, compassion, and community spirit of local individuals, families, and businesses. In just 24 hours, over 60 local donors gave $45,159 in donations and helped the Foundation secure an additional $70,159 in matching funds, for a total of $115,318 toward the expansion and renovation of Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Gifts of every size, from $25 to $14,000, poured in from both new and longtime supporters who believe deeply in keeping high quality health care close to home. “We tried to be prepared for anything this year,” shared Haden Merkel, Campaign Manager, “after last year’s success, we didn’t know how this year was going to go.” Luckily for local healthcare, donors woke up Tuesday morning willing, able, and determined to invest in a healthier future for their families and neighbors. One resident, Bob Coulter, who manages Burger King in Mobridge, created a business challenge that inspired over 20 local businesses to share about MRHC Foundation’s match and donate to the cause the day of the event. Countless others shared posts, stopped by with donations, and listened in to the radiothon. “This Giving Tuesday, MRHC Foundation succeeded because our community chose to make it succeed,” said Merkel. “Every single donor made a statement: rural families deserve exceptional care, and we are willing to stand together to make that possible.”
A generous 2:1 matching gift from Mobridge Economic Development Corporation and an anonymous donor amplified early contributions, turning the first $25,000 in donors’ gifts into $75,000 by the end of the radiothon DRG News hosted for MRHC Foundation from 1-2 p.m. The match inspired 17 donors to give to the Foundation for the first time and motivated longtime supporters to stretch their generosity further. The remaining $54,841 of the anonymous $100,000 match is still available to double gifts through year-end. Foundation staff have been fielding a lot of positive feedback from the radiothon, which featured interviews with hospital staff as well as MEDCO and MRHC Foundation leaders. Trudy Kemnitz, Co-Director of Radiology shared about her department’s construction progress and Jodi Madison, Director of Clinic Operations explained what the expanded specialty clinic will mean for our region.
The interviews are available on Dakota Radio Group’s website for listeners and readers who missed the live event. “We want to make sure everyone knows how thankful we are for the support—whether it was a shared post, listening to our stories on the radio, or a donation,” shared Merkel. “Your gifts are more than donations—they are investments in people, families, and the future of healthcare here.” To continue supporting this work or to learn more about current projects, visit www.mobridgehospital.org/foundation or contact Haden at 605-845-8180.
