The 25th annual Pierre Parade of Lights is tomorrow night (Dec. 5, 2025), followed by a day full of activities on Saturday for the Oahe Winter Festival.
Dani Norden with the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce says the theme is “Songs of the Season!” and participation is open to all types of entries, including floats, vehicles, walking groups and community organizations.
There is no entry fee, but donations are accepted to help cover the Chamber’s costs. Prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, in addition to the Mayor’s Choice and Griswold awards.
The typical Pierre Parade route will have a slight detour because of construction. The route will go south on Highland Avenue to Dakota Avenue, turn west on Dakota to South Pierre Street, then south on Pierre Street, ending at the Legion Cabin.
The Oahe Winter Festival is Saturday (Dec. 6, 2025) from 9am-4pm based out of three different locations in Pierre. However, Norden says, the Chamber is compiling a map of other things to do in Pierre and Fort Pierre on Saturday as well.
Norden says the Chamber’s activities are taking place at the American Legion, Lee Real Estate and the Missouri Avenue Event Center.
She says there will also be a scavenger hunt later in the afternoon.
Teams of two or more people will follow clues throughout the Pierre and Fort Pierre area. Teams may enter the Best Dressed contest during registration. A team photo will be posted on the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page, and the photo with the most likes wins.
There is no admission fee to enter the three Oahe Winter Festival locations. There will be four door prize drawings for $200 in Pierre Pride Dollars and four door prize drawings for $50 in Pierre Pride Dollars. You do not have to be present to win. Limit one prize per family.
