Dec. 31, 2025:
A 46 year old man from Howard has been indicted on manslaughter and murder charges in connection with a stabbing death that occurred Dec. 6, 2025, in Howard.
Elias Stubbe was officially charged (Dec. 18) by a Miner County Grand Jury on one felony count each of First Degree Murder, Second Degree Murder, and First Degree Manslaughter. The charges are connected to the death of 56 year old Nichole Malfero of Howard, who was found deceased at a home in Howard.
The two murder charges each carry a mandatory sentence of life in prison and the manslaughter charge carries a maximum sentence of up to life in prison.
Stubbe is being held on a $1 million cash bond at the Davison County Jail in Mitchell. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 17, 2026. He is presumed innocent under the U.S. Constitution.
The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the Miner County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident. The Attorney General’s Office is prosecuting the case.
Dec. 8, 2025:
A 46 year old man from Howard has been charged with First Degree Murder and Second Degree Murder related to the death of a woman Saturday morning (Dec. 5, 2025) at a home in Howard.
Elias Stubbe is charged in the death of 56 year old Nichole Malfero of Howard. The incident was reported at 2:50 a.m. Saturday. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Each charge carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison. Stubbe is being held on a $1 million cash bond at the Davison County Jail in Mitchell. He is presumed innocent under the U.S. Constitution.
The South Dakota Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case.
