South Dakota U.S. Senator Mike Rounds has formally requested (Dec. 9, 2025) an investigation into the persistent issues with United States Postal Service delivery in his home state.
In a letter to Postal Service Inspector General Tammy Hull, Rounds asked for her to determine the root cause of mail issues impacting South Dakota, as well as to consider the need for a regional processing facility in South Dakota.
Rounds says he’s heard from hundreds of constituents across South Dakota voicing substantial issues with U-S-P-S service. He says he believes these issues are caused by the flawed design of the Postal Service network, which all but guarantees that mail traveling to-or-across South Dakota must travel in a roundabout manner through locations around and outside of the state.
Rounds says South Dakotans depend on the Postal Service for critical communication, medicine and care. He asked Hull to act swiftly to identify and resolve the causes of these failures and help return South Dakota’s mail service to the standards Americans deserve.
