A bill aimed at internet crimes and human trafficking is one of the pieces of legislation the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office wants lawmakers to approve during the state’s 2026 legislative session.
Attorney General Marty Jackley says last year (2025), the state Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force received 2,727 Cybertips related to the online sexual exploitation and online sexual victimization of children, including child sex trafficking.
When investigating cyber crimes or human trafficking, Jackley says law enforcement wants to be able to respond as quickly as possible. He says he’s working with the state’s Unified Judicial System to base those efforts out of Pierre and Hughes County.
Jackley’s investigative subpoena authority bill, Senate Bill 44, was scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee today (Jan. 15, 2026).
