Feb. 4, 2026:
Mobridge shoppers are now seeing a familiar grocery store with a new name. Payless Foods has officially begun converting to Buche Foods, with the process starting last week.
Customers can now view the Buche Foods ad, download the Buche Foods app, and access special deals and savings, according to Buche Foods President RF Buche. “Stop in and we will help you get signed up for our RF’s Rewards card which will link to your Buche Foods App and you will see tremendous savings!”
“At Buche Foods we take great pride in our commitment to the communities and surrounding communities we serve along with great customer service,” Buche said. “We’ve always known we have had big shoes to fill following in the footsteps of the Stoicks, and we are finally taking the step and converting our Mobridge location to a Buche Foods. We are going to bring that same value and customer experience as Mobridge has been seeing, along with increasing our variety and savings.”
During the transition, Manager Amber Aman promises Buche Foods will work to make the conversion as smooth as possible. “We will have a dedicated team member at the front of the store to help everyone get signed up for the RF’s Rewards card, download our app, point our customers to our website (www.buchefoods.com), and offer any other assistance to ensure the transition is as seamless as possible. We have the same great team members we have always had, and we are committed to ensuring the best customer experience through and beyond this transition.”
Buche promises to improve variety, selection and savings. A new exterior sign along with a digital board will also be installed along with a new look on the inside with electronic shelf labels, local themed décor, and other novel furnishings to incorporate Buche Foods into the hometown of Mobridge. Buche said customers should look for other changes like a larger and more expanded weekly ad, check cashing, a FREE or heavily discounted item every week with a $10 purchase and other surprises coming soon that he is anxious for customers to experience. Buche stated “If you haven’t been to Paylessfoods in a while or ever, please come check us out in the coming weeks. We are very excited to bring a Buche Foods to Mobridge!”
Gus Buche, RF’s great grandfather, opened his first grocery store in Lake Andes in 1905. The family-owned business has since grown to serve communities throughout South Dakota, focusing on locations that benefit from a locally owned, full-service grocery store focusing on community, service and value. RF Buche, the company’s president since 2000 and a fourth-generation grocer, proudly continues the family tradition.

Starting today (Feb. 27, 2025), Paylessfoods in Mobridge is part of the G.F. Buche chain of grocery stores.

He said they understand the importance of everyday values and personal service in a community grocery store and they work hard to provide innovative ways for families to save money.
Jim Stoick opened the grocery store as Stoick’s Supervalu in 1960. The most recent owners, Josh and Heather Stoick, carried on the traditions of freshness, high quality and good customer service.
