As the Lyman girls battle with Parkston competing the number-one spot at the top of the Class B rankings, they know that each game is essentially a must-win on their way down the final stretch if they have hopes of going into the postseason as the one-seed. Lyman had carried over a strong 2024-25 season into this regular season, and continued that trend on Thursday night with a 55-23 win over the visiting Philip Scotties.
Lyman took control early building a double-digit 13-3 lead in the first quarter and did not look back. Consistent offense out of their senior crew helped them establish a comfortable 34-6 lead as all facets of their game were clicking. Lyman saw three of their own finish with double-digit points in the win as Bree Smart scored 11, Mak Scott finished with 12 and Jordyn Scott totaling 19, leading both teams in scoring.
For Philip, they were led by Drew Terkildsen who finished the game with 9, but would fall in the end to a record of 9-8 while the Raiders improved to 16-1 on the season. Lyman now looks ahead to one of their biggest matchups of the season with a two-loss Bennett County team who also came out victorious last night, that game will be played on February 17th at the Warrior Center.
In the boys game, the Raiders have also been piecing together a nice campaign, but were given all they could handle in the first quarter. Philip kept it to a one point, 13-12 game in the first frame. Lyman would find their rhythm in the second quarter outscoring the Scotties 26-12 and growing the lead to 15. Philip, to their credit played the second half, and mainly the fourth quarter well, but the comeback would be too much to surmount as Lyman would cruise to their 11th win on the year while the Scotties fell to 2-15.
The Raiders were led by MJ Diehm who exploded for 25 points alongside a 15 point performance from Daswen Volmer. On the Scotties side, they had a few double-digit scorers in Teagan Groper who finished with 11 and Jaxon Rhodes who scored 13. Lyman begins a tough finish to the regular season with a 10 win Kadoka Area team and a 14 win Stanley County team on the horizon over the next few games.
