Awareness about treatment options for depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns is increasing across Rural America, but awareness about the options to treat brain health issues such as concussions, dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease aren’t as prevalent.
Tiffany Hoeft is a speech-language pathologist, board certified neurofeedback specialist, certified brain injury specialist and owner of Minds Matter in Aberdeen. She says many people don’t realize some damage caused by dementia is preventable– if you start early enough.
Hoeft says she and her team work on repairing a range of brain issues.
Hoeft says one important aspect of helping people who have dementia or Alzheimer’s live “better” with their disease is to NOT take things away.
Again, Hoeft can’t stress enough how important “the earlier, the better” it when it comes to treating brain health. She received the “Healthy Rising Star Award” from South Dakota First Lady Sandy Rhoden during an awards luncheon in January 2026.
