When it comes to treating brain health concerns such as brain fog, concussions, dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease, a board certified neurofeedback specialist in South Dakota says the earlier a person starts addressing the problem, the better.
Speech-language pathologist Tiffany Hoeft owns Minds Matter in Aberdeen and is a certified brain injury specialist. She says what seems like a small change in brain function now, doesn’t necessarily have to become a big problem later in life.
Hoeft says she doesn’t understand why many people– especially teenagers– who get a concussion don’t seek out treatment for that injury to their brain.
Hoeft and her team are coordinating “The Empowerment Project” in Aberdeen, but she says they could connect with women around the state.
Hoeft received the “Healthy Rising Star Award” from South Dakota First Lady Sandy Rhoden during an awards luncheon in January 2026.

Awareness about treatment options for depression, anxiety and other mental health concerns is increasing across Rural America, but awareness about the options to treat brain health issues such as concussions, dementia or Alzheimer’s Disease aren’t as prevalent.
Tiffany Hoeft is a speech-language pathologist, board certified neurofeedback specialist, certified brain injury specialist and owner of Minds Matter in Aberdeen. She says many people don’t realize some damage caused by dementia is preventable– if you start early enough.
Hoeft says she and her team work on repairing a range of brain issues.
Hoeft says one important aspect of helping people who have dementia or Alzheimer’s live “better” with their disease is to NOT take things away.
Again, Hoeft can’t stress enough how important “the earlier, the better” is when it comes to treating brain health. She received the “Healthy Rising Star Award” from South Dakota First Lady Sandy Rhoden during an awards luncheon in January 2026.
