Stanley County feels they have a score to settle with the Lyman Raiders boys basketball team, and they get the chance to do just that tonight at home. To further explain what that might be, we jump back to January 17th when Lyman took home the Jones County Invitational trophy after defeating Stanley county 52-47 in the championship game. Stanley County led that championship game for a majority of the contest, even stretching out their lead to double-digits in the first half. However, the Raiders kept the course, storming back to an overtime victory to claim the JCI.
Joey Fischer talked about how his Buffalo team came into that game tired after two grueling games, but was proud about the way they hung tough with such a talented team like Lyman. The loss certainly left a sour taste in the mouths of the Buffaloes, as it was a game they let slip away from their grasp. Since then, Stanley County has only dropped one of their last ten games. The loss might’ve been a wakeup call for Fischer’s team who is playing some of their best basketball of the season right now.
Lyman is another team that is carrying a strong streak of play into their second to last regular season game. The Raiders have won their last three, including an impressive five-point road win over 13-5 Kadoka Area. A recipe for an instant classic.
Tonight’s game features two premier point guards with the Raiders led by junior MJ Diehm who played a big role in Lyman’s JCI victory, and the Buffaloes led by senior Paxton Deal who joined the 1,000-point club just a few games ago. The two teams will also feature some post presence with the 6’4″ duo of Cole Kieffer and Dawsen Volmer for Lyman matched up with 6’4″ Teegyn Breitag and 6’8″ Trevor Caldwell in the paint for Stanley County.
Tonight’s game will tip-off around 8:00 PM CT with coverage on KGFX beginning shortly after 7:30 PM. You can listen live on KGFX, the DRGnews app or watch live on DRGnews.com/KGFX.
