The South Dakota Legislature enters its 36th of 38 legislative days Wednesday. Most committees have stopped meeting.
The Joint Committee on Appropriations opens at 8 a.m. The committee introduces HB 1326, its general appropriation bill. It also hears three other budget measures. HB 1139 funds state government operations for the coming year. HB 1051 revises property tax levies for school districts. It also revises state aid formulas for general and special education. SB 78 revises the general appropriations act for the current fiscal year.
The Senate Health and Human Services Committee meets at 9:15 a.m. The panel wraps up its interim study work.
Both chambers gavel in at 10 a.m.
The Senate takes up Senate Bill 245 Wednesday. The bill creates a homeowner property tax reduction fund. It also transfers money into that fund. They will consider a House amendment to SB 245.
Four conference committees remain unresolved. Those panels negotiate final language on HB 1200A, which appropriates money for victim services through nonprofits. HB 1209A requires employers to use the federal e-verify system. SB 74A shifts money from state reserve funds to the general fund. SB 121A funds repairs to the Richmond Lake dam and spillway.
The regular session ends Thursday.
