Bel Brands broke ground last week (March 11) on a $200 million expansion of the company’s Babybel cheese plant in Brookings.
Bel CEO Cécilé Beliot said they’re expanding to meet nationwide demand.

Bel North America CEO Peter McGuinness said they make a simple product and are proud to make it in South Dakota.
South Dakota Gov. Larry Rhoden said this benefits the entire state.
The expansion would increase annual production at the Brookings plant from 10-thousand tons to 20-thousand tons. The company hopes to complete the expansion by 2028.
The Brookings Babybel facility opened its doors in 2014. It currently employs 260 people and produces 1.6 million individual Babybel cheeses per day.
