Friday’s matchup between Stanley County and Cheyenne-Eagle Butte would mark the second time these two have faced off this season. The first meeting saw Stanley County cruise to a 67-52 victory back in January. In the consolation semi-finals of the Class A State Tournament, the Braves evened the score with a thrilling 58-57 win over the Buffaloes.
The game prior saw two buzzer beaters from Groton Area before St. Thomas More won the first game of the day with a bucket at the buzzer of their own in double overtime, so there was already a good energy in the building for game two from the Monument. Both teams came out in Stanley County and Cheyenne-Eagle Butte were poised to turn around poor shooting performances from their first game, and they both did just that.
Cheyenne-Eagle Butte shot an impressive 47.9% from the floor while Stanley County also stroked it well finishing with a 45.5% field goal for the day. The game went back and forth and then back again, both teams trading blows and trading leads for all four quarters.
A couple late buckets and some strong defense from the Braves would be enough for them to move onto the consolation championship versus St. Thomas More tomorrow.
The Braves were led by Damien Clown who finished the game with 23 points while the Buffaloes were led by Paxton Deal for the second straight game who finished with 18.
