Largemouth Bass caught in Lake Louise located in Hand County have been added to the South Dakota Department of Health’s Fish Consumption Advisory list.
Health Secretary Melissa Magstadt said the addition was made following a recent review of sampling data measuring mercury content. She encouraged people to regularly check the DOH website for the most up-to-date fish consumption guidance to help ensure people have the information they need to make informed choices when consuming locally caught fish.
The health department has released the current mercury determination for lakes every year since 1996. For many years, the South Dakota Departments of Health, Agriculture and Natural Resources, and Game, Fish and Parks have worked together to monitor fish across the state and share guidance to help people safely enjoy the benefits of eating fish while minimizing exposure to contaminants such as mercury.
