The City of Pierre is correcting information sent out earlier this week (March 31, 2026) regarding local regulations for the placement and removal of political signs.
Corrections were made to the first two of following city ordinance guidelines:
-
With permission of the property owner, or the adjacent property owner, signs may be place on private property or in the boulevard area of the street right of way adjacent to private property.
-
Political signs are not allowed within the State right-of-way.
-
Signs must not obstruct visibility for drivers or pedestrians.
For the June 2 primary, political signs can be displayed beginning April 7 and must be removed by June 9 (within seven days following the election date). These regulations are in place to help maintain public safety, ensure clear visibility along roadways and intersections, and to preserve the appearance of the community.
Residents are encouraged to ensure all signage is placed and removed in compliance with these requirements.
For questions regarding sign placement or regulations, please contact the City of Pierre.
