DES MOINES, IOWA — Ellie Harris bests the South Dakota State 200-meter program record by 0.01 seconds at the Jim Duncan Invitational, hosted by Drake University on Friday afternoon.

Harris clocked a time of 23.81 to break Carly Carper’s decade-old record of 23.82. The sophomore is now the second Jackrabbit in program history to run under 24 seconds in an outdoor 200-meter race.
Lucas Flemmer earned a gold medal in the 400-meter with a time of 47.19 to become the third-fastest performer in SDSU history.
The women’s 4X400-meter relay team rounded out the night with a silver-medal run to become the second-fastest performers in program history. Story Rasby, Jenna Johnson, Reese Luze and Erika Kuntz posted a time of 3:43.49, only three second shy of Johnson and Kuntz’s program record run last season.
Griffin Fischer earned a spot on the SDSU top 10 list as the eighth-fastest 200-meter performer in program history with a time of 21.23 to finish in the top five of the event.
Silja Gunderson, Harris, Grace Erick and Sian O’Sullivan competed in the women’s 4X100-meter relay race. The squad posted a time of 46.21 to win the event.
Other notable performances on the track came from Hannah Spoden and Cael Woods. Spoden won the 1500-meter race with a time of 4:32.79, while Woods claimed bronze in the 400-meter hurdles at 53.96.
In field events, Ty Nelson, Kincade Lehman and Wyatt Melcher swept the triple jump podium. Nelson landed at 47-10.50 (14.59m), Lehman leaped 46-09.00 (14.25m), and Melcher hit a mark of 46-04.25 (14.13m).
Jaden Peters won the pole vault competition after clearing 15-07.00 (4.75m).
Brooks Holen and Hadley Carlson both finished runner-up in their respective high jump competitions. Holen cleared 6-06.75 (2.00m), while Carlson jumped 5-03.00 (1.60m).
Rylan McDonnell claimed silver in the long jump competition with a leap of 23-02.00 (7.06m).
UW-PLATTEVILLE INVITATIONAL
Seven Jackrabbits competed in the 5000-meter competition at the UW-Platteville Invitational on Friday evening. Jared Lutmer won his heat with a time of 14:38.17, placing sixth overall. Luke Johnson clocked a time of 15:17.64 to finish 27th in heat eight.
Nicole Swanson had the quickest time on the women’s side, finishing at 17:25.43 to place 13th in her heat. Kadense Dooley ran alongside Swanson, crossing the line at 17:50.36 for 24th.
Annie Robinson, Annika Larson and Greta Peters all competed in heat five of the women’s 5000-meter race. Robinson crossed the line at 17:41.63 to finish eighth in her section, Larson placed 12th with a time of 17:43.84 and Peters clocked 17:56.33 for 18th.
USD SNOOZE BUTTON
Earlier this week, the throwers squad took a trip down to Vermillion for the USD Snooze Button meet.
Three Jackrabbits finished in the top 10 in the women’s hammer throw competition. Josie Curry finished runner-up with a mark of 174-11 (53.31m), Lydia Hill took eighth with a throw of 149-11 (45.69m), and Kirsten Kilker rounded out the top 10 with a mark of 147-05 (44.93m). On the men’s side, Ryan Hackbart took bronze with a throw of 183-11 (56.06m).
Piper Eby claimed third in discus with a throw of 148-03 (45.19m). Hill and Addy Engel competed as well, finishing sixth and seventh, respectively. Hill threw 141-02 (43.03m), while Engel posted a mark of 139-11 (42.66m). On the men’s side, Ethan Fischer took fourth with a mark of 163-00 (49.69m), TJ Christensen claimed sixth with a throw of 157-10 (48.12m) and Hackbart finished eighth after throwing 157-10 (48.12m).
Engel also threw in the shot put competition, where she took bronze with a mark of 43-02.25 (13.16m).
Harley Johnson and Sloan Young took fourth and fifth, respectively, in the javelin throw. Johnson hit a mark of 117-03 (35.75m), while Young threw 116-00 (35.37m).
