PIERRE, S.D. – Pierre Governor standout tight end Cooper Terwilliger has been sought after by major college football programs for over a year now, and Monday morning he made his commitment official. Terwilliger is choosing the Penn State Nittany Lions as his playing destination once his high school career comes to an end. Still a junior, Terwilliger’s commitment is only a verbal one at this point. He helped the Governors regain Class 11AA football championship status this past season by catching 38 passes for 549 yards and four touchdowns, including a game-changing Hail Mary at the end of the first half of Pierre’s win over Yankton in the DakotaDome last November. Teams such as Michigan and Iowa State were among the final possibilities, but after a trip to the Western Pennsylvania campus, Terwilliger made his choice to head to “Happy Valley.” Penn State has a been a tight end factory in recent years, producing five current NFL tight ends, including Tyler Warren, last year’s first-round choice of the Indianapolis Colts. Theo Johnson of the Giants, Brenton Strange of the Jaguars, and Pat Freiermuth of the Steelers have also been high draft choices out of Penn State in the past five years.
