UPDATE MARCH 31, 2022:
A 24 year old woman from Aberdeen has been identified as the person killed early Monday morning (March 28, 2022) in a two-vehicle crash three miles west of Wallace.
Preliminary crash information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol indicates that Dezirae Bohn was driving a 2017 Ford F150 pickup was westbound on SD Highway 20 around 4:30am CT when Bohn failed to stop for a stop sign. The vehicle collided in the intersection with a 2020 International LT625 semi-truck and trailer, which was northbound on SD Highway 25. The pickup came to rest in the east ditch of SD Highway 25 and started on fire which spread to the nearby grass. The semi-truck and trailer came to rest in the west ditch.
Bohn, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The 65-year-old male driver of the semi-truck, Randy Kozak of Yankton, was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries. He was taken by law enforcement to the Watertown hospital.
Traffic was rerouted around the crash site until about 3pm that day.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
