KALAMAZOO, MI – Thanks in part to Pierre’s Carter Sanderson, a team from South Dakota will play for a national championship on Monday.
The Team South Dakota 14U boys team won quarterfinal and semifinal games Sunday to advance to Monday’s championship game in the USA Hockey Tier II National Championship.
Sanderson scored four goals in Team SD’s 8-4 quarterfinal victory over the Granite State Wild (NH). Later on Sunday, Sanderson had an assist in Team South Dakota’s win over the Portland Winterhawks (OR) in the semifinal round.
Sanderson, who scored 27 goals this season for the Oahe Capitals varsity as an eighth-grader, now has five goals and three assists in five games in this tournament.
Team South Dakota will play the Alaska Oilers for the 14U 2A Tier II championship Monday at 9:00 AM CT. Team SD defeated Alaska in the first of three round-robin pool play games.
