The Pierre School District, Oahe TV, Campea Photography and Dakota Radio Group have teamed up to give this year’s senior class both virtual and live components to their graduation ceremony.
Assistant Principal Rob Coverdale says the virtual portion of the celebration will be aired on Oahe TV as well as streamed at https://oahetv.com/ Sunday, May 24 at 2pm. The virtual ceremony will be prerecorded and stored on the “Watch On Demand” tab of Oahe TV’s webpage.
The virtual ceremony will be followed by a drive-by roll call and diploma handout in the upper parking lot at Riggs High School, which will be livestreamed by Oahe TV. This portion of the ceremony will begin at 3:30pm and have student-selected music playing through the Dakota Radio Group’s Dakota Cruiser. Graduating seniors will have have their names prominently displayed on their vehicle. There will be one vehicle per graduate and no public gathering of any kind will be allowed on school property.
Each graduate will drive through with their family at their preselected time and have their name announced by Dakota Radio Group announcer–and 1990 T.F. Riggs graduate– Brian Oakland. Each graduate will get out of the car, receive their diploma and then have their picture taken by professional photographer Brandon Campea. A copy of this photograph will be given to each graduate at a later date. The school anticipates this portion of graduation will take approximately 3½ hours. Staff will be present to direct traffic and assist with the procession.
